Our Program
A Developmentally, Age Appropriate Program
Curriculum: Play is an important part of the child’s work and toys are his/her tools. Play is the avenue by which children experience their world. In playing together, children share ideas and experiences. The teachers use Creative Curriculum to create their weekly lesson plans.
Our preschool program is cognitive and spiritual in nature; however, we are not academically oriented. We spend time developing children’s thinking skills. This type of growth is not always seen in paper and pencil activities
Language Development: The child will have many chances to talk and express himself through puppets and imaginative play. Role playing activities are also provided in the program. Flannel board stories will be used and retold by children. Language development is encouraged through story time as well as songs and finger plays.
Creative Art: The child will be introduced to a variety of art materials, what they are like and what can be done with them. Art is a non-verbal means of expressing ideas, feelings, and interests. It encourages self-esteem and self-expression. It also provides for an opportunity to gain coordination skills and satisfaction. Process over end-product is emphasized.
Music: Listening activities encourage freedom of movement and body awareness. Developing basic motor skills and self-expression experiences will be encouraged through rhythm instruments, group singing and a variety of records, tapes, and CDs. Children ages 3 – 5 attend a weekly music session with a degreed teacher.
Eye-Hand Coordination: Games and equipment to develop perception, judgment, and eye-hand coordination are offered. Color, shape sorting, likeness and difference, and tracing will be introduced to develop growing confidence through problem solving. The child will be guided in understanding relationships, space awareness, and comparisons.
Gross Motor/Physical Development: Our children will be introduced to beginning exercises for young children. This will include jumping, running, skipping, hopping, stretching, and working with a partner. All children will be exposed as well as encouraged, but never forced to participate in gross motor activities. As we know, physical development is a very unique category and developed at a very unique rate. A large muscle room and playground are part of the program.
Math Readiness and Science: The child will be guided in understanding relationships, space awareness, and comparisons. Mathematics readiness will be taught through basic concepts; counting, sorting, grouping, measuring devices, balance, water, sand, cooking activities, and block play. Simple experiments and exploration introduces some basic science concepts.
Social and Emotional Development: Your child will have many opportunities to make new friends. They will learn to trust adults that are different than the ones at home and in their family. Social/emotional development will grow out of daily activities and interaction with children and adults in the classroom. For example, working and playing together, taking turns, helping each other, and developing patience are all a part of social/emotional development. Cleaning up and taking care of the classroom, sharing first-hand experiences, that expand their world, helping deal with emotions that are real, managing moods, and learning to cope with negative feelings in a positive way, will help children develop feelings of self-worth. Our staff is aware of the continually growing perceptions of children at this age, and knows that a good-positive self-image is important to our program and help children to reach there full potential.
Extra Curricular Activities: Creative Movement by Barb Craven of Craven Dance Studios and Computer Classes by Compu-Child.
In Addition: Our families are welcome and cordially invited to attend our Sunday School and Worship Service.
